I don't like to brag. Well, actually, I do, but I so rarely have anything to brag about. I can't cook. I don't bake. (I watch The Great Canadian Baking Show and those people blow me away. How are they doing that?) I'm a mediocre gardener. I try. The plants know how I try. I'm not athletic. I can't sing and I can only speak one language after 30 years of living in La Belle Province. So when I get email from readers who say they're enjoying St. Ives Book Club Mystery series, I go a little bit bananas. I feel like I've won an Oscar. I got fan mail this week and I'm pretty chuffed. I had to race over here and tell everyone. "They like me! They really like me!" (If you can spot the reference, you are probably in my age-range.) More News: I have been invited to speak at the Arbor Gallery in Vankleek Hill on April 13, 2023 (7 pm if you're in the neighbourhood) and the organizer interviewed me for The Review. I haven't done an in-person author thingy since ... wow .. since Iced Under was published. I hope I don't ramble on and on like I did back then. Here is a link to the article: thereview.ca/2023/03/31/crime-fiction-author-nadine-doolittle-at-arbor-gallery/ I'm ridiculously pleased with my little author self at the moment. It won't last. The final draft of Murder Will Out will humble me. There's a stage in writing when it looks like the story is going to win the power-struggle it's having with the author. It refuses to behave, it gives you the silent treatment and there's nothing you can do but hack away at it until it gives in and life is good again. So thank you, readers, for expressing your appreciation because that day is coming and I will keep hacking even when I want to throw in the towel. Happy Spring! Coming May 9, 2023 No one was going to be murdered. They were assured that nobody was going to be murdered. Sure, it was a Murder Mystery House but no one had ever actually died while playing the game. The evening was a departure from their regular book club meeting but this was a chance to test their sleuthing skills without an actual body. What could go wrong?
